Cyril Fonseca has been playing the tuba for twelve years. Very active, he has also studied piano (21 years), classical singing, conducting, music writing and composition. He graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Montr\u00e9al with a master’s degree with distinction in Pierre Beaudry’s class and moved to the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in Germany under the tutelage of Stefan Heimann and Thomas Brunmayr in 2019. Passionate about studies, he began an Artist Diploma at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University with Austin Howle and a Bachelor of Music in composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montr\u00e9al in the class of Nicolas Gilbert.<\/p>
Cyril has perfected his skills during workshops (Domaine Forget, PRISMA, Pommersfelden, Orchestre des Am\u00e9riques, etc.), with great masters of the instrument such as Oysteen Baadsvik, Sergio Carolino, Carol Jantsch, G\u00e9rard Buquet, Mica\u00ebl Cortone d’Amore, Joe Skillen, Chris Lee, Paul Beauchesne, Lance Nagels and Martin Schippers.<\/p>
Graduated from a chamber music competition with distinction in April 2020, he has been steadily gaining recognition as a soloist and chamber musician, notably with the quintet of the Orchestre de la Francophonie, which performed at the Busan Maru International Music Festival 2018 in South Korea. He has been performing at the Festival Unisson since 2020, in several Quebec brass quintets (CUzN) as well as a soloist at the Place des Arts Foundation Gala on June 1, 2021. In 2020, Cyril won the 3rd prize of the OSM Competition 2020 in his category as well as the Orchestre des Am\u00e9riques prize and he also qualified for the Markneukirchen 2022 competition in Germany.<\/p>
After having been a musical arranger, music librarian and orchestra manager for various ensembles including the Orchestre de la Francophonie, Cyril is a tuba and euphonium teacher at Joseph-Fran\u00e7ois-Perrault High School, Coll\u00e8ge Reine-Marie, Coll\u00e8ge Beaubois, Coll\u00e8ge Notre-Dame, Coll\u00e8ge Esther-Blondin as well as at the Coop des professeurs de musique de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>
Awarded the Governor General’s medal, a Fondation Desjardins bursary for community involvement in 2018, a Jeunesses Musicales Canada AIDA Foundation bursary and the Conservatory 2021 career development bursary, Cyril is developing his administrative talents by completing a Master’s degree in Cultural Enterprise Management at HEC Montreal and being a coordinator for the Montreal Chamber Music Festival and the JFP Foundation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
